Quintana Roo Judiciary requesting 1.3 billion to operate in 2026

Riviera Maya, Q.R. — The Quintana Roo judiciary says over 1.3 billion pesos will be required to function next year. The money will take into account previously unaddressed needs as well as new courts.

Heyden Cebada Rivas, President of the Superior Court of Justice and the Council of the Judiciary of the State of Quintana Roo, says the court will make the 1.3 billion pesos operating request for 2026.

According to Cebada Rivas, the money will cover the integration of the new Judicial Disciplinary Tribunal and the Judicial Administration Body, as well as the mixed courts of Bacalar.

He explained that in light of the implementation of the constitutional reform, adjustments were made to integrate the new courts that were not included in the 2025 budget.

Therefore, the proposal presented to the deputies of the Eighteenth Legislature already includes resources to equip all areas.

“We are going to request 1.3 billion pesos. We understand that we have a constitutionally mandated base of 2 percent of the state’s allocated budget.

“We are focused on consolidating what was implemented with the reform. We had to redirect several projects that could not be finished, so now, our priority is to strengthen the Judicial University, the Arbitration and Mediation Center, alternative dispute resolution mechanisms and the courts in Bacalar,” he said.

“The Disciplinary Tribunal is allocating 27 million pesos for the Bacalar court and 2 million pesos for the necessary personnel as it is a mixed court that began with family law matters.

He explained that since assuming presidency, many staff members who were under contract have been given permanent positions, and although next year’s goals will be limited, the objective is to strengthen the judicial branch staff who, “in the instance have long had the lowest salaries.”

“Our ideal budget is 1.3 billion pesos since currently, we have around 1,970 people,” he detailed.
