Puerto Morelos to spend 43 million this year on increasing public security

Puerto Morelos, Q.R. — The administration of Puerto Morelos plans to allocate more than 43 million pesos to strengthen public security. The 43 million is for 2026 and has been approved by the City Council.

Puerto Morelos mayor Blanca Merari Tziu Muñoz said the budget will be used to expand the police force’s vehicle fleet by purchasing new patrol cars, which was recently increased by 15 units.

The money will also be used to increase surveillance infrastructure with the installation of security cameras around the municipality. She said the goal is to reach around 200 video surveillance devices distributed in strategic areas, including la ruta de los cenotes.

The increased monitoring system will not only be available to the Municipal Police, but can also other agencies such as Civil Protection and the Fire Department to improve emergency responses.

Part of the approved 43 million will also go toward the construction of a new citizen security base, will be announced soon. The new base will be financed with resources from a state trust, which would allow for the expansion of the operational capacity of local authorities.

The municipality recently added another 29 certified officers, drones and 15 new patrol units to strengthen security.

The mayor delivered strategic aerial equipment to the police force and presented certificates to 29 officers last month. The municipality of Puerto Morelos now has 76 active police officers.
