Puerto Morelos, Q.R. — The Government of Puerto Morelos has begun patch work on the municipality’s damaged roads due to 10 days of rain. Mayor Blanca Merari Tziu Muñoz restarted the patching program in order to ensure roads throughout the municipality are in good condition.
Leonel Salazar Trejo, the General Director of Public Services, reported that the work began Tuesday morning and will continue until the last pothole generated by the intense downpours that fell in Puerto Morelos are covered.
“This patching program is permanent, but we intensify it when a storm affects our municipality since, as we all know, heavy rains deteriorate the asphalt layer coupled with natural wear and tear over the years,” he said.
Crews focused directly on patching work have been activated, which will allow for substantial progress throughout the municipality. “We will continue working to keep our roads in optimal condition,” he said.
The pothole patchwork program will be extended in the community of Leona Vicario. A cold asphalt product, unlike the hot asphalt that is commonly used, is being used since it can be applied regardless of whether the ground is dry or wet from the rain,” he said.
The pothole patching program was started at the beginning of the year. By early February, the municipality had already filled more than 300 potholes.
