Puerto Morelos, Q.R. — The government of Puerto Morelos has begun intense road repairs of its municipal potholes with more than 300 already this year. José Luis Chacón Cool, the Director of Lighting, Patching, Wells and Beach Cleaning, said the work is being done to improve roads.
Chacón Cool explained that during the month of January, after the Christmas holidays, the patch work intensified in streets and avenues in the town as well as in the community of Leona Vicario after being affected by natural wear and tear as well as recent heavy rains.
“On instructions from Mayor Blanca Merari Tziu Muñoz, we have activated crews that are focused on patch work which has allowed us to make substantial progress throughout the municipal geography. We will continue working to keep our roads in optimal conditions,” he commented.
José Luis Chacón explained that in the town of Puerto Morelos, 172 potholes were filled on the Cherna, Nassim Joaquín, Saraguato, Zetina Gasca, Ramón, Kuka, Jesús Martínez, Rafael Lara, Miguel Quintana Pali, Tlacuache, Delfín and Timón roads.
“In addition, Wednesday afternoon we went to respond to a citizen request on Javier Rojo Gómez Avenue in the Old Town to cover some small holes formed in the pavement,” he added.
In the community of Leona Vicario, 143 potholes have been filled already this year on Ardilla, San Justo, La Granja, Benito Juárez, Bagre, Barracuda, Miguel Domínguez and Francisco Villa streets.
Leonel Salazar Trejo, the General Director of Public Services, reported that teams of workers are in the process of beautifying public spaces such as the medians, parks and gardens to provide a better urban image.
“We work on the medians of the federal highway from the “Alfredo Barrera Marín” botanical garden, to the bridge roundabout and on José María Morelos Avenue, which is the main access to the tourist area. We will continue to carry out these tasks in each point of our municipal seat,” he said.
