Police respond to rowdy residential eviction over claims of resold Playa del Carmen property

Playa del Carmen, Q.R. — Police in riot gear responded to a rowdy residential eviction in Playa del Carmen yesterday morning. During the clash, one woman was arrested for assault.

The incident happened Wednesday morning during a home eviction in the Colosio neighborhood of Playa del Carmen. Several dozen neighbors who saw the eviction gathered on the street to watch.

The occupant of the home was reluctant to leave as SSC (Secretariat of Citizen Security) police supported the court ordered eviction. The owner of the home, on 102nd Street and 15th Avenue, was accompanied by a court officer during the 10:00 a.m. eviction.

Police were brought in for support.

Homeowner Jorge “V” arrived and force-entered the property by breaking a front gate. That sparked a confrontation between the homeowner and the tenant who barricaded herself inside.

Police became involved in, what turned into, a forceful eviction.

The occupant, Laydi “N”, was eventually removed from the home. Neighbors began to protest her removal, which led to some exchanging pushing and shoving with police. At least two people were injured.

The eviction is reported part of a legal conflict of resold real estate by the now-defunct company Derimaya, a parastatal company that managed the land in the Colosio neighborhood.

The court ordered eviction required the intervention of police. March 25, 2026.

The woman who was evicted said she had lived in the house nearly 30 years. The home is alleged to have been resold by real estate company Derimaya to a Cozumel man.
