Tulum, Q.R. — Police in Tulum arrested a man Monday after being reported for selling fake event tickets. The unnamed man was reported for selling the counterfeit tickets for 4,500 pesos each. When he was arrested, police found over 22,000 in cash.
Elements of the Secretariat of Public Security and Citizen Protection of Tulum made the arrest with support from the Navy and National Guard after receiving an anonymous tip.
Using details of the fraud and physical description of the man provided by the tipster, authorities were able to locate him. He was found driving his BMW on Cobá Avenue. The car he was driving had State of Morelos license plates.
The driver was pulled over and inspected at which time police found a stash of counterfeit tickets and bracelets for music events around Tulum. According to police, he was selling them for 4,500 pesos each.
Duringt his arrest, he was also found carrying 22,500 pesos in cash, allegedly obtained from the sale of the fake tickets.
Police said the successful operation was the result of an anonymous complaint alerting authorities about the sale of the fake event tickets. Authorities in Tulum say that this type of fraud affects not only the people buying the tickets, but also the reputation of Tulum as a prominent destination and uurge citizens and tourists to purchase tickets at official points of sale.
