Playa del Carmen, Q.R. — A total of six people have been taken into custody for the Christmas Day murder of two. Police say all six were arrested in two operations that included one arrest from the scene.
The State Attorney General (FGE) said as a result of an operation coordinated with members of the Interinstitutional Group, three men and three women were detained for their probable participation in the crime of aggravated homicide.
“The events for which the now detained individuals are being held accountable occurred when the victims were in a store located near the Playa del Carmen Municipal Detention Center where they were attacked with a firearm.”
According to initial reports, the woman and her three-year-old son ran to the store for cover when their car was fired upon. Police found both dead.

“Thanks to the quick reaction of the Playa del Carmen Municipal Police, a subject identified as Irvin Alexander “N” was captured,” police said.
“In this incident, the Public Prosecutor’s Office is primarily investigating drug trafficking, specifically street-level drug dealing, stemming from a dispute between rival criminal groups operating in the area.
“At the scene, officers arrested one person. The others were apprehended in separate operations,” they said.
A 9mm firearm was seized during the operation along with the getaway car. The victims have been identified as the wife and son of Samuel Esteban “ N”, leader of Los Compich criminal cell. They had traveled to Playa del Carmen to visit him in jail since Tulum is without its own facility.

Police have not identified the individual roles of the six in custody in the Christmas Day murders that left a woman and boy dead.
