Playa del Carmen, Q.R. — Mayor Estefanía Mercado announced the opening of the Housing and Regularization Directorate office. She says the office is a space designed to provide legal certainty to families living in irregular areas of Playa del Carmen.

The mayor emphasized that this action will help initiate a historic housing regularization process in neighborhoods such as El Sauce, In House, Las Torres and San Judas Tadeo.
During a visit to the service module located in the new Municipal Palace, she reported that the proposal for the formal creation of the Housing and Regularization Directorate has already been presented to the City Council.
She said it is currently being analyzed by committees with the goal of preventing invasions, avoiding fraud, and ensuring the legality of property.
“This module allows us to begin receiving documents now to compile the files of candidates for regularization. In addition, we will deploy brigades in neighborhoods to collect birth certificates and other essential documents to formalize property ownership,” explained Estefanía Mercado.
During her tour, she greeted families interested in securing their property and reiterated her administration’s commitment to regularizing it as much as possible, protecting the environment and avoiding legal conflicts due to illegal occupations.
The Mayor stated that evictions will not be carried out, but the occupation of new properties will not be permitted either. “The agreement with our people is clear: I’ll help you regularize your status, but help me stop further invasions,” she emphasized.
In addition to regularization, the City Council will provide guidance to young families in accessing new housing through a program managed in coordination with Infonavit, the state government and the federation.
The homes will cost approximately 600,000 pesos, will be equipped and well-located, and will be built in three zones currently undergoing authorization. Both the state and the municipality will cover the administrative costs, guaranteeing quality housing at affordable prices.
“This program is ideal for young people starting out in their working lives because it will allow them to access their first home safely and legally,” said Mercado.
With this strategy, the Municipal Government of Playa del Carmen reaffirms its commitment to social justice, legal certainty and sustainable urban development, ushering in a new era of well-being and property security for Playa del Carmen families.
