Cancun, Q.R. — A man who was found in possession of more than a kilo of cocaine inside the Cancun airport has been sentenced. The Attorney General of the Republic (FGR) says Ricardo “M” has been sentenced to more than five years in prison.
The sentence was handed down Tuesday for “attempted extraction of the narcotic known as cocaine hydrochloride.” The 1.3 kilos of cocaine was located during an October 14, 2025 customs search inside the Cancun International Airport.
Ricardo “M” was about to board a plane for Havana, Cuba when Xray officials noticed a false bottom in his suitcase. A manual search confirmed the false bottom which was used to hide over a kilo of cocaine.
He was arrested at Terminal 2 inside the Cancun International Airport by National Guard. On Tuesday, a federal judge in Cancun sentenced him to five years, six months and 19 days in prison.

According to the FGR, he was “sentenced by the Specialized Regional Control Prosecutor’s Office for attempted extraction of the narcotic known as cocaine hydrochloride.”
In a statement regarding the October 14 arrest, the FGR said “members of the National Guard detained a person at Terminal 2 of the Cancun International Airport, Quintana Roo, because when entering his suitcase into the X-ray machine, a possible false bottom was detected.
“During a search, authorities found a package containing 1 kilo 383 grams five milligrams of cocaine hydrochloride, so Ricardo “M” was placed at the disposal of the Federal Prosecutor’s Office in the state.
“The federal prosecutor offered the necessary evidence to obtain a five-year, six-month, and 19-day prison sentence from the trial judge against Ricardo “M”.”
