Over a dozen Playa del Carmen ‘bar hostesses’ freed from forced prostitution

Playa del Carmen, Q.R. — Over a dozen young women reported victims of forced prostitution were rescued Sunday. During the nighttime operation, 18 women, who were hired as hostesses, were removed from a Playa del Carmen establishment.

As a result of a search warrant for a Playa del Carmen bar, personnel from the State Attorney General’s Office (FGE), located 18 women. The Sunday night location and subsequent rescue operation was in coordination with the National Guard.

The bar was seized by state officials during the Sunday night operation February 22, 2026.

The court order was executed at an establishment that operates as a bar on 100th Avenue between 20th North and 22nd North streets, in the Ejidal neighborhood. Inside the premises, they found 14 Mexican women, three Cuban women and one Nicaraguan woman.

“According to initial investigations, the women, all in vulnerable situations, were invited to work at the bar as hostesses, earning 200 pesos per drink, of which they kept 100 pesos.

“After a while, the bar managers told them that if they wanted to continue working there they had to offer sexual services for 1,000 pesos. This money was given to the cashier,” the FGE reported.

The Playa del Carmen bar was seized by the state during the operation. Owners of the bar are facing charges of human trafficking in its form of the prostitution of others.
