Felipe Carrillo Puerto, Q.R. — Officials have verified progress on the Puerta al Mar road, Gate to the Sea, in Felipe Carrillo Puerto. Governor Mara Lezama made the progress tour with Major Apolo Castillo Zetina of SEDENA (National Security Agency) Saturday.

“Thanks to SEDENA, thanks to President Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo, thanks to the federal government and thanks to all those who fought for this access, which today will be social justice, the gateway to the sea is a reality,” the Governor stated.
She explained that for many years, the residents of Felipe Carrillo Puerto had been asking for a gateway to the sea, but neoliberal governments refused to allow it; they weren’t even on the map.
“Today, with the Fourth Transformation government, this great project is becoming a reality. Then-President Andrés Manuel López Obrador agreed to the project and President Claudia Sheinbaum has followed through on this great project,” explained Mara Lezama.
Chief Construction Engineer Apolo Castillo reported that the paved portion of the roadway is 22 kilometers long and eight meters wide. The remaining 10.2 kilometers will be five meters wide and dirt. He reported that the artisanal road, including the transfer area, is well advanced.

The governor indicated that all signage, wildlife protection measures and everything the roadway needs, are being installed. She reported that includes the architectural program of a commercial premises, restrooms and showers.

It also includes a partial mangrove restoration, a parking lot and the wall dedicated to political prisoners, because that was an immersion zone where prisoners were left to die in the jungle.
“The most important thing is social justice, ensuring that the people of Carrillo de la Frontera have access to the sea, access to the sea that is theirs,” she said.
