Riviera Maya, Q.R. — As the Atlantic heads into its last weeks of official hurricane season, the National Hurricane Centre (NOAA) locates a new disturbance. That new Atlantic disturbance, they report, is quickly becoming organized and is forecast to develop further.
The disturbance, located early Monday morning over the central Caribbean sea, is showing promise of becoming a tropical depression. Initially given a 20 percent chance of further development Monday morning, 24 hours later, the weather disturbance has increased to an 80 percent chance of additional development.
“A tropical wave over the central Caribbean Sea is producing an area of disorganized showers and thunderstorms. Environmental conditions appear conducive for development, and a tropical depression will likely form late this week as the system moves westward into the western Caribbean Sea.
“After that, the disturbance is expected to slow down and meander through the weekend,” the National Hurricane Centre has reported.
“Interests across the western Caribbean Sea should monitor the progress of this system,” which has a high 80 percent chance of further development in coming days. The next storm name on the 2024 Atlantic Hurricane Season list is Sara.
