Tulum, Q.R. — Tulum Mayor Diego Castañón says his government has plans to install 600 surveillance cameras next year. He says once the new municipal C4 system is operational, any business without a security camera will not be granted a license.
Mayor Castañón says the objective is to reinforce security in Tulum in 2025 with the installation of more than 600 surveillance cameras. He says the cameras will all be connected to the C4, which in turn, will be connected to the C5 in Cancun, and any commercial establishment, hotel or restaurant “will not have an operating license” if it is not connected to the system he said.
Castañón made the comment Tuesday in an interview during his visit to Chetumal elaborating on the need to increase efforts in the fight against crime and build social peace in the municipality.
He says the first stage of the Command, Control, Communication and Computing Center (C4), which to date has cost more than 100 million pesos, is nearing completion. Once up and running in early 2025, at least 600 security cameras will be installed.
“We are going to buy more than 600 cameras. The C4 is about to conclude its first phase. We are going to change everything with technology and intelligence. We are no longer a town, we are a city.
“No business, hotel or restaurant will have operating licenses if they do not have cameras connected to the C5 for the safety of everyone,” he stressed.
