Nichupté Bridge of Cancun scheduled for end-of-January opening

Cancun, Q.R. — Governor Mara Lezama has announced an end-of January opening for the city’s Nichupté Bridge. She reported Wednesday that the bridge is nearing completion in various degrees of stages.

She says the Nichupté Bridge has reached 98.5 percent completion at the Colosio interchange, 98.3 percent in the land area, 95.6 percent in the large metal arch, 91.8 percent in the lagoon area and 79.3 percent at the Kukulcán Boulevard interchange.

“By 2026, traffic flow in our beautiful hotel zone will improve significantly, saving drivers more than 45 minutes on commutes. This will greatly benefit our visitors, a well as workers and the general public,” Lezama said.

“This is an 8.8-kilometer-long bridge that, together with its interchanges, exceeds 11 kilometers, and will have three traffic lanes,” she added.

Governor Lezama said the construction of the bridge over the lagoon is a response to a historical demand of the people of Cancun, as well as the tourism and hotel sector. The completed bridge, she said, will offer a substantial improvement in mobility and a significant saving in travel times.

The governor of Quintana Roo reported that more than 93 various types of machines were used for the construction of the bridge, noting that the project has not caused damage to the lagoon since “state-of-the-art technology has been used during its construction to ensure respect for the natural environment of the lagoon system.”

The Nichupté Bridge will have a significant impact on the population and its construction adds to the modernization of Cancun, promoting orderly and sustainable growth.

The bridge, which is scheduled to be in operation for the end of the month, will be free of charge.
