Navy locates drifting boat with four onboard off Chetumal Bay

Chetumal, Q.R. — Four government workers were rescued Saturday night after becoming stranded off Chetumal Bay. Navy personnel were sent out in the darkness in search of the vessel and its four crew members in response to a request for assistance.

The boat was found adrift 17 nautical miles north of Chetumal Bay February 14, 2026.

Four members of the National Forestry Commission (Conafor) had set out Saturday afternoon to carry out clearing in Senderos, Parlovenio and Calderas. While on the way back, their boat’s engine stopped working.

The crew of two men and two woman found themselves stranded at sea with a motor that failed to propel. They began to drift when they reported their situation to the Secretariat of the Navy.

Marina personnel set out in search of the boat, which was located 17 nautical miles (31 kilometers) northwest of Chetumal Bay.

The crew were transferred on to the Navy vessel and the government Conafor boat towed to a dock.

In a brief statement, the Secretariat of the Navy, through the Naval Station of Search, Rescue and Maritime Surveillance (ENSAR) of Chetumal, said they received the report of vessel called Nisbrissa that presented a mechanical failure that left the propellers and the engine without operation.

The four crew and their boat were returned to land Saturday night February 14, 2026.

Naval personnel aboard a Defender-class vessel located Nisbrissa and proceeded with the rescue of the crew. According to the official report, the four crew members were found in good health, although visibly shaken due to the length of time they had been stranded.
