Narcotics dog marks truck heading toward Quintana Roo transporting hundreds of kilos during highway check stop

Teya, Yucatan — The driver of a self-rented truck heading toward Quintana Roo was arrested Tuesday. The man was taken into custody after being found transporting hundreds of kilos of narcotics.

A narcotics dog marked the truck positive as it passed through the highway check stop February 24, 2026.

The truck was inspected after an on-site narcotics dog marked the vehicle positive for illicit substances. The truck was pulled over at a check stop near the Yucatan town of Teya and inspected.

During the inspections, the vehicle was found transporting 250 kilograms of cannabis and more than 25 kilograms of crystal meth. The truck was marked positive by the dog at a highway checkpoint set up by the Secretariat of Public Security (SSP).

On Tuesday, the SSP said “at a checkpoint on the Merida-Cancun highway near Teya, officers stopped a delivery truck heading towards Quintana Roo.

“During the preventive inspection, a K-9 unit alerted to the vehicle. Upon searching the indicated area, more than 250 kilograms of cannabis and more than 25 kilograms of a substance with characteristics of methamphetamine (crystal meth) were found.”

The truck was found transporting cannabis and crystal meth February 24, 2026.

The check stop was through the Secretariat of Public Security (SSP) and with the support of federal forces. “The stop is part of the state’s permanent operations at strategic points as part of the agreements established at the Peace Table.”

The driver, who has not been named, was arrested and all the seized items were turned over to the Attorney General of the Republic (FGR) for the corresponding legal proceedings.
