Narcotics dog makes chocolate drug bust in central Playa del Carmen bus station

Playa del Carmen, Q.R. — A Playa del Carmen narcotics dog made a large drug bust of chocolate Friday. The dog was part of a team inspecting bus passenger luggage at a central bus station when the bust was made.

While inspecting the luggage compartment, one black bag was marked by the dog as positive for an illicit substance. According to police, 23 boxes of chocolate believed containing narcotics were found inside the duffle bag.

“Suitcase containing illicit substances seized at the Playa del Carmen bus terminal,” the Secretaría de Seguridad Ciudadana (SSC) reported.

“Members of the Canine Unit, with the support of dog Yoker from the Secretariat of Citizen Security (SSC), made the find while conducting surveillance at the ADO Bus Terminal.”

The terminal, they said, is “located at the intersection of Benito Juárez Avenue and Fifth Avenue in the Centro neighborhood of Playa del Carmen, where Yonker noticed a suspicious suitcase.

“The incident occurred in the luggage compartment of one of the buses where the canine unit began exhibiting changes in behavior, moving its head from side to side, pulling and barking, indicating that it was detecting the scent of narcotics. The dog then gave a positive indication on a black suitcase.

“Upon inspection, 23 small orange and purple boxes labeled “DAY CERO” were found. Each box contained a chocolate bar, which, based on the dog’s indication, is presumed to contain narcotics. The individual was turned over to the Specialized Prosecutor’s Office for Combating Drug Trafficking.”
