More than a dozen illegal surveillance cameras located during Cozumel dismantle operation

Cozumel, Q.R. — Cozumel authorities removed at least a dozen illegally placed video cameras from public poles Wednesday. The cameras were found placed mostly on CFE and Telmex poles around various areas of San Miguel.

At the end of the Wednesday search and removal, approximately 14 cameras were found that were not linked to any C2 or C5 system. The cameras were also not claimed by any private individual.

Municipal police, along with personnel from the Marina, National Guard and the FGE, participated in the location and removal operation. Cozumel Public Services provided the hoists so police could reach the cameras to be dismantled.

Cozumel authorities say their search for illegally placed security cameras is permanent and ongoing along with other municipalities in the state.

On Thursday, Playa del Carmen police reported finding 19 video surveillance pieces attached to public poles. Those video surveillance cameras were also dismantled in a location and removal operation.
