Riviera Maya, Q.R. — Regulations for the modification of the state’s new “vest law” are expected to be finalized for March publication. The modification of Article 218 Bis of the Quintana Roo Mobility Law is expected to be published next month which will mean an eventual legal enforcement of the wearing of the numbered vests.
State Secretary Cristina Torres Gómez said that at the beginning of March, the regulations that will establish how the vests will be worn will be finalized. She said the Government of Quintana Roo has already put out the tender for the vests and stickers.
According to Torres Gómez, three vests, which much be worn and three stickers, which must be placed on helmets, will be provided to private motorcycle drivers with up to date paperwork, free of charge. The wearing of the vests and stickered helmets will be mandatory.
The update came after months of agreement meetings between state officials and local motorcycle members.
Among the agreements that were fulfilled by the state government, she said, is the application of discounts on driving licenses, support for the regularization of motorcycles (owners behind on paperwork) and a delay in the publication to give motorcycle drivers behind on their paperwork a chance to catch up to qualify for the vests.

Normally, once legal modifications have been published in the State’s Official Gazette (Periodico Oficial del Estado de Quintana Roo), the new rules become law in 30 days. Torres Gómez did not say when in March the Mobility Law modifications will be published.
