Miami Beach donates rescue vehicle to island of Cozumel

Cozumel, Q.R. — As part of the renewal of the sister city relationship with Miami Beach, Cozumel will receive a donated rescue vehicle. The donation was made during a recent visit by Mayor Juanita Alonso Marrufo.

The rescue vehicle is being donated to the island of Cozumel by the Vice Mayor of Miami Beach, Kristen Rosen Gonzalez, who promised the vehicle during her visit in February.

Once received, the unit will be part of the assets of the Civil Protection, Firefighters and Lifeguards Department. Mayor Alonso met with Rosen Gonzalez as well as Miguel Anchía, Fire Chief, and Lucy Delgado, who has been the link to strengthen the ties of friendship and cooperation between the two sister cities.

The Mayor thanked the Vice Mayor for strengthening this exchange of experiences spanning more than 30 years and for providing Cozumel with the mobile unit.

The municipal government of Cozumel has taken the relevant actions to comply with the customs and donation procedures before the Treasury Department so there are no import costs. Soon, the rescue unit and various firefighting equipment will be transferred from Port Everglades, Florida.

This vehicle will be at the Emergency Center during the holiday season to provide care as a first responder and also at the Fire Station in the event of an accident to transport a person who requires care.
