Cancun, Q.R. — Cancun Civil Protection lifeguards pulled another near-drowning victim from the sea. The latest rescue happened on Playa Gaviota Azul in the Cancun Hotel Zone Monday.

Lifeguards at the beach area of kilometer 9.5 of Kukulcán Boulevard pulled the adult male from the sea. Lifeguards say 29-year-old Kevin “N” from Mexico City was rescued Monday evening after being dragged out by the current.
On-duty lifeguards were able to swim to his location and return him to the sand from where he was transferred to hospital by ambulance. The Mexico City tourist entered the water around 6:00 p.m. despite red flag warnings posted in the sand.
Over the weekend, one man died by drowning off a Cozumel beach. In Playa del Carmen, three people were rescued from choppy waters Sunday, however, in a separate incident later the same day, a man died by drowning after being dragged out by strong currents.

The region is currently experiencing strong winds due to the entry of a U.S. cold front. The winds are forecast to stick around until the end of the week.
