380 million peso Isla Blanca highway project 30 percent complete

Cancun, Q.R. — Governor Mara Lezama says the new Isla Blanca highway that will connect with Cancun is 30 percent complete. Governor Lezama visited the site Sunday where she inspected progress of the first stage.

She reported that the modernization of the Cancun-Isla Blanca highway, a strategic project for the mobility of northern Quintana Roo, is about 30 percent complete.

During her tour, the Governor, along with authorities from the Ministry of Infrastructure, Communications and Transportation, the Ministry of Public Works and the Ministry of Sustainable Urban Territorial Development, verified the work being carried out on an initial 4.2-kilometer section, which will expand the road from two to four lanes.

Mara Lezama emphasized that this is a carefully planned project to guarantee its durability and functionality, incorporating infrastructure that is not visible to the naked eye, but which will be crucial for its long-term operation.

“It’s about doing a good job, doing planned work, doing work that will last for many years,” the Governor said while inspecting the installation of underground infrastructure, storm drains, upgrades to Federal Electricity Commission lines, and ducts for connectivity services.

The modernization includes the construction of a central median, sidewalks, a bike path, public lighting, signage, as well as a new 20-centimeter-thick asphalt layer, designed to offer greater resistance and useful life.

As part of the project, 25 new drains will also be installed with specialized high-density polyethylene pipe to maintain the natural water flow of the area, in addition to the releveling of high and medium voltage registers of the CFE, avoiding future interventions on the pavement.

She said that this highway represents a fundamental route for thousands of workers in the tourism industry who travel daily between Cancun, Costa Mujeres and Isla Mujeres, while also strengthening the experience of visitors who come to the Mexican Caribbean.

She also reported that, once this first stage is finished, the project will continue with a second 7-kilometer section that will connect with José López Portillo Avenue. After that, the modernization project will be extended toward Costa Mujeres.

According to Governor Lezama, the project is an investment of 380.9 million pesos.
