Playa del Carmen, Q.R. — On-duty lifeguards saved three swimmers from drowning off Playa Fundadores Sunday. However, Sunday evening, a young man who was swept out to sea drowned.
According to Solidaridad Civil Protection, a 32 year old woman and and two minors aged 14 and 12, were swept out to sea in central Playa del Carmen Sunday afternoon. On-duty lifeguards were able to swim out and bring them back to shore.

“Our lifeguards successfully rescued three people at Fundadores Beach. While carrying out surveillance work, the Civil Protection Lifeguard team received an alert about an adult woman and two minors swept away by the current and high waves, so they immediately implemented rescue and salvage maneuvers.
“After the timely intervention of the rescuers, the 32-year-old woman and the minors, aged 14 and 12, received medical attention and did not require transfer to the hospital,” they reported.
However, a few hours later on the same beach, a young male tourist was pronounced dead from drowning. The young man, identified only as a national tourist, was also swept out to sea off Playa Fundadores in central Playa del Carmen.

Despite efforts to revive him, he was unresponsive. He was pulled from the water by Civil Protection lifeguards and found to have already been without vital signs. CPR was applied, but the youth was pronounced at the scene.

Winds and high waves began to enter the region Sunday with the arrival of a new cold front. Cold front 24 brought rain to much of the northern region Sunday night. The front is expected to stick around for a few days with continued rain and strong winds.
