Tulum, Q.R. — At least eight municipal of Tulum police officers have been fired since the start of the year. Tulum Mayor Diego Castañón Trejo reported that the officers were let go for acts of corruption.
On Thursday, Castañón Trejo confirmed eight Municipal Police officers have been dismissed so far this year for engaging in misconduct. In his video, he reiterated that his administration will not tolerate acts of corruption.
The video was released after a work meeting with the Municipal Secretary of Public Safety, Edgar Aguilar and the Director of Traffic, Jessica Orozco. All three met to analyze and strengthen Tulum security strategies.
During the meeting, the mayor addressed the public, making it clear that his administration will not tolerate irregular acts by police. He reported that eight police officers have been dismissed so far this year for engaging in misconduct.
“We want the residents to know that we will not allow acts of corruption. The Secretary has instructions to immediately remove any personnel involved in irregularities from their post, because there is no place for that in this administration,” stated Diego Castañón Trejo.
Edgar Aguilar, who was also at the meeting, admitted that combating corruption is an ongoing priority and urged citizens to report any misconduct.
“In line with our zero corruption motto, we have a reporting number available so that people can inform us of any irregular situation.
“We will channel these reports to the Prosecutor’s Office so that an investigation file can be opened. We have dismissed eight officers so far, and we will not let our guard down on this issue,” he said.
The Municipal Government invites residents and tourists to use the reporting number 984-198-6865 to report any acts of corruption or misconduct by public servants, guaranteeing appropriate follow-up in accordance with the law.
Two weeks ago, Castañón Trejo announced the removal of several municipal city council workers, also for acts of corruption.
