Cancun, Q.R. — A Cancun woman was killed after being struck by an out-of-control vehicle while getting out of a car. The incident, which left others injured, happened Thursday near Plaza Peninsula on Bonampak Avenue.
Initial findings from the scene indicate that the accident occurred when the driver of a compact vehicle lost control, hit the median and rolled several times.
During the rolls, the vehicle struck a woman as she was getting out of the passenger’s side of another vehicle. The woman was thrown several meters before landing on the concrete.
Witnesses rushed to her aid, placing an umbrella over her to shade her from the sun while they waited for an ambulance
Emergency personnel arrived only to pronoune the woman dead at the scene.
The driver of the rolled vehicle was found with multiple injuries and taken to hospital from the Thursday afternoon accident. One of those injured was the driver of the car from where the female passenger was hit.
The area was cordoned off by Cancun Transit while rescue operations were underway. The deceased woman has not been named. Authorities have not provided an official cause for the accident that caused the vehicle to roll, killing the woman.
