Playa del Carmen, Q.R. — Authorities are continuing their investigation into the broad daylight robbery of a security company. On Monday, police were sent to the scene were a group of armed men attacked guards.

The attack happened on 95th Avenue in the Ejido neighborhood of Playa del Carmen Monday afternoon around 3:00 p.m. When armed guards from the company arrived at the site to unload collected money, they were attacked by men waiting in a nearby vehicle.
One of the company guards was shot at least twice.
According to initial reports, the guards were ambushed by several armed assailants as they were securing the money to bring into the company building. During the robbery, one of the guards was shot two or three times.
After the robbery, the men escaped with the cash which has been estimated to be several hundred thousand pesos. An official figure has not yet been confirmed.
Law enforcement launched a search operation to locate those responsible, while paramedics attended to the injured guard.
So far no arrests have been reported and the investigation continues.
