Male swimmer swept out to sea off Cozumel beach drowns

Cozumel, Q.R. — Municipal police manned the scene of a Cozumel beach drowning late Sunday. A male swimmer was reported swept out to sea near the area of Playa Corona.

According to early available information, a group of tourists entered the water on the south coast to swim. One of them failed to return to shore. Emergency services was notified of the missing male swimmer.

Police and medical personnel from an ambulance were at the scene, however, paramedics from the ambulance quickly left and were replaced by personnel from the forensic medical service.

The area was taped off by police while forensics removed the body. Cozumel authorities have not commented publicly on the drowning.
