Isla Mujeres, Q.R. — A man found guilty of killing his former girlfriend has been sentenced to more than 37 years. The Isla Mujeres native was sentenced for the April 2020 stabbing death of his then-girlfriend.
According to police, Jimy José Catzín Sanguino was accused of stabbing her during an argument on April 26, 2020. He was sentenced Friday during an oral hearing.
“Jimy José Catzín Sanguino took the life of his romantic partner on April 26, 2020, after exhibiting repeated acts of violence,” police reported.
“After the State Attorney General’s Office presented testimonial, expert, scientific and circumstantial evidence, which allowed them to prove the full participation of Jimy José Catzín Sanguino in the crime of femicide, the judge issued a guilty sentence,” they said.
“The events for which Jimy José Catzín Sanguino will remain in custody occurred on April 26, 2020, when he went to the home of the victim, with whom he had a romantic relationship.

“A some point they argued, which resulted in the man physically assaulting the woman, who received multiple injuries with a sharp weapon, which caused her death by hemorrhagic shock.
“The now sentenced man was arrested on April 27, 2020, in this municipality, in compliance with an arrest warrant.”
Jimy José Catzín Sanguino has been sentenced to 37 years and six months in prison and ordered to pay a fine of 195,480 pesos and 623,493.20 pesos for material damages.
