Judge agrees to charges against seven for extorting Cozumel tourist salesman at ferry terminal

Cozumel, Q.R. — Seven men have been officially charged for extorting a Cozumel tourist sales agent. The men were charged Tuesday for demanding protection money from a tourist agent at the Cozumel ferry terminal.

The State Attorney General (FGE) has identified the men as Bismarck Yahir “N”, Luis Diego “N”, Cuitláhuac “N”, Luis Fernando “N”, Álvaro “N”, Nelson “N” and Zeus Israel “N”.

Police said one of the men, Zeus Israel “N”, has already been charged for extorting another victim and has now been charged with extortion for a second time in the case of the tourist salesman.

“Zeus Israel “N” has a previous link, for the same crime, to the detriment of another victim,” the FGE said.

All seven have been accused of extorting the Cozumel ferry terminal salesman since 2025, arriving armed at his place of work to demand protection money. The group demanded 50,000 pesos payable at the end of each month.

“The events for which these seven individuals are being investigated began on September 29, 2025, when they appeared carrying firearms at a tour sales establishment located at the fiscal pier.”

They arrived “to demand from the owner the amount of 50,000 pesos per month as payment for “protection money”, which the victim granted them at the end of each month,” said the FGE.

After the victim filed a complaint, an arrest warrant was issued for six of the men since one was already in custody. The judge overseeing the case has ordered all seven to remain jailed during their legal process.
