Isla Mujeres, Q.R. — Islanders were left for another day without power after the collapse of a pole. The concrete structure gave way under its own weight early Thursday morning on Juárez Sur Avenue.

The rotted rebar and crumbled concrete structure fell over leaving half of the island of Isla Mujeres without electricity. The pole was photographed dangling off a tangle of nearby telephone lines.

Sets of power lines from the felled pole early Thursday morning lined the street where the collapse occurred, causing another blackout.
Personnel from the state-owned company arrived on the island after daylight broke to replace the fallen pole. Some areas had their power restored only to have it cut for a second time.
By the time the repair was completely finished at 3:45 p.m., residents and businesses in the El Altillo area spent nearly seven hours without electricity.

It is the second large power failure to affect island residents in less than a week. On Thursday, the island-installed backup generator belonging to the CFE exploded twice, leaving a majority of residents without electricity for as long as four hours.
Last week, a rotted concrete CFE pole in central Playa del Carmen also collapsed under its own weight. That pole also came crashing to the ground, causing a central power outage.
