Isla Mujeres, Q.R. — The Quintana Roo Mobility Institute (Imoveqroo) met with golf cart concessionaire partners of Isla Mujeres Wednesday. Both sides met to address island traffic order and road safety.
The General Director of Imoveqroo (Instituto de Movilidad del Estado de Quintana Roo), Rodrigo Alcazar Urrutia, presented proposals to optimize traffic order, improve road safety and promote efficient and sustainable transport, Imoveqroo said in a statement.
Alcazar Urrutia says the goal is to regulate and improve the service for both tourists and residents.
Alcazar Urrutia mentioned that one of the proposals that the Institute is already working on is the improvement of road signs, both horizontal and vertical, to improve the orientation of drivers and pedestrians to reduce the risk of accidents.
Isla Mujeres concessionaires spoke about the problem of unfair competition to which Alcazar Urrutia indicated that regulation of competition is proposed, establishing a regulatory framework to guarantee equity among transport service providers.
He says these measures will bring multiple benefits to residents and visitors of Isla Mujeres, from increased road safety to reduce accidents with improved signage, including the professionalization of drivers, and the strengthening of the image as a tourist destination.
“As an Institute, we work towards more efficient and safe mobility, which contributes to improving the tourist image,” said Rodrigo Alcazar.
Last month, island police set up an checkpoint. According to Commissioner Karina Cabrera Rodríguez, the Director General of Citizen Security, 21 vehicles were found with violations and towed.
