Golf carts and irregular taxi some of the vehicles towed during Isla Mujeres traffic operation

Isla Mujeres, Q.R. — Island police set up a checkpoint over the weekend inspecting vehicles traveling Isla Mujeres roads. The inspection was set up by the General Directorate of Citizen Security and Transit Saturday.

During the afternoon operation, more than 300 vehicles were stopped and inspected. An island taxi was removed from the streets and towed for failing to have any legal documents allowing it to provide taxi services.

According to Commissioner Karina Cabrera Rodríguez, the Director General of Citizen Security who headed the operation, the towed cab was found circulating without any license to offer taxi services.

The cab’s driver was also found driving without any driver’s license and the vehicle itself, without any plates. In total, 21 inspected vehicles were found with violations and towed.

Golf carts and a taxi were some of the 21 vehicles towed during the island’s Saturday traffic operation.

“The taxi was detained for not having any type of documentation, without license plates and the driver also did not have a driver’s license,” she said.

Commissioner Rodriguez said 15 motorcycles, five golf carts and one taxi were found traveling Isla Mujeres roads without proper documents.

A little over 300 vehicles were stopped in different points of the island Saturday.

The operation began at 2:00 p.m. and was carried out at various strategic points on the island of Isla Mujeres. Commissioner Rodriguez said the main objective of the operation was to identify and remove from circulation vehicles reported stolen or in an irregular situation.
