Mexico City, Mexico — President Claudia Sheinbaum said more than 13 million people voted in the June 1 Judiciary elections. On Monday she said that the election of the Judiciary on June 1 was a complete success and was attended by nearly 13 million Mexicans who, for the first time in history, exercised their right to decide who should be the new ministers, magistrates and judges.
With that, she said it made Mexico the most democratic country in the world.
“With the new judiciary, Juárez’s aspiration of ‘nothing outside the law; no one above the law’ will become a reality. That is, a true rule of law, where no one, not even the most powerful, is above the law.
“Yes, Mexico is the most democratic country in the world. To all Mexicans, I say have confidence. We are living in an extraordinary moment. We are a free, sovereign, independent country, more just and more democratic every day,” she said after voting day.

She recalled that the current judiciary has been responsible for favoring members of organized crime and has released billions of pesos from white-collar crime, and that half of the members of this branch reached their positions through nepotism rather than judicial careers.
“Half of the judiciary, according to its own president, reached their positions through nepotism, that is, by being brothers, cousins, nephews, or brothers-in-law of a judge or minister, not by having participated in a judicial career,” she explained.
He emphasized that the objective of the reform to the Judicial Branch was to allow the people to decide their judges, magistrates and ministers of the Supreme Court of Justice of the Nation (SCJN), contrary to what happened in the past, when the Constitution was amended to impose ministers.

“June 1 was a transparent process. The candidates were selected by professional committees from the Executive, Legislative and Judicial branches. The campaigns were straightforward and the voting was free,” she said.
