Cozumel, Q.R. — The municipality of Cozumel is working with the CFE to provide power to the island’s farms. In an important step toward the urban development of Las Fincas, the Municipal Government of Cozumel presented a new project.

Mayor José Luis Chacón Méndez presented the project for the introduction of electric power service through the Federal Electricity Commission, which represents a significant achievement in improving the quality of life of the families living in this area.
During a meeting with residents of the industrial estate, the mayor reported that a proposal has been prepared by the Cadastre Department, which has allowed the process of negotiating with the CFE (Federal Electricity Commission) for the provision of electricity service to begin.
However, he emphasized that in order to move forward in an orderly manner, citizen commitment is necessary to align the subdivisions and roads with current regulations.
“We need to work together,” said Chacón Méndez emphasizing the importance of respecting legal road regulations and making the necessary donations to enable the installation of basic infrastructure.
The Director of Cadastre, Blanca Araceli Chalé Cabrera, explained that with the support of the Urban Development Directorate and based on the municipality’s official cartography, a proposal was drawn up that delimits an area of 75 hectares, divided into 75 blocks.
This division has allowed for the presentation of three types of plans to the CFE: a general one with blocks and lots, another with measurements of primary, secondary and tertiary streets, and a third with satellite images that show the current situation of the properties.
During the meeting with residents, information was also provided on the minimum road widths required by law: 27 meters for primary streets, 12 meters for secondary streets, and 8 meters for tertiary streets.
Municipal authorities confirmed that the CFE will begin electrical work from the main avenue into the industrial area. Technical inspections and notifications to residents will be conducted in the coming days to ensure the roads are aligned according to the official plan.

This effort represents a firm step toward transforming Las Fincas into a formal settlement, with guaranteed infrastructure and basic services, the result of coordinated work between the Municipal Government and the public.
