FPMC personnel relocate crocodile from Cozumel Hotel Zone

Cozumel, Q.R. — Personnel from the Cozumel Parks and Museums Foundation (FPMC) captured a young crocodile from the Hotel Zone Monday. The juvenile croc was captured after citizens reported it on a bike path.

“Due to the heavy rains that have been recorded in recent days, these reptiles often leave their natural habitat, putting themselves at risk of being run over and causing an accident,” said the General Director of the FPMC, Alejandro Marchán Payán.

Rafael Chacón Díaz, the Cozumel Director of Conservation and Environmental Education (CEA), explained the crocodile was rescued thanks to a call from citizens. After locating the reptile, it was captured and inspected. The young croc was found to be in good health and was released back into the wild.

Young crocodiles have been a common sight around the state in recent days due to all the rain. They’ve been captured in Chetumal parking lots, from under cars and in urban street puddles around Cancun.
