Tulum, Q.R. — A Tulum transport driver has been suspended for six months after being found intoxicated. The unnamed uniformed driver was found to be impaired last week during a breathalyzer spot check.
Tulum combi drivers with the National Union of Transporters of Change (Untrac) were surprise-inspected last week. According to Julio César Estrella Martínez, the Secretary of Labor at Untrac, at least one driver was found impaired while in uniform.
Although he was not on duty or transporting passengers at the time, his vehicle was confiscated and he was suspended for six months.
Estrella Martínez explained that although they have not receive any formal complaints, Unión Nacional de Transportistas del Cambio (Untrac) officials have become aware of passenger social media comments alleging that some operators drive while under the influence of alcohol.
“If we receive evidence that someone is carrying beer or is under the influence of alcohol, we will take action, but we need evidence, photos, video or precise information,” he said.
He stated that Untrac has undertaken the task of verifying the allegations with random breathalyzer tests as required by its statutes.
