FGE investigating previous administration for negligence in identifying body

Riviera Maya, Q.R. — The current State Attorney General is investigating the previous State Attorney General (FGE) administration for negligence in the identification of a body.

The body of 17 year old Francisca Mariner, a teen reported missing in 2020 , was found in 2022. Her remains were brought to forensics and “ruled out” as being her after several attempts at DNA testing.

Last month, DNA tests were run again, positively identifying her. The FGE says they have started an investigation into the previous administration for negligence in the identification of her remains.

Forensic specialists ruled out DNA tests carried out in 2022 on the victim’s remains, which had been in the morgue since July 2020.

The State Attorney General’s Office reports the initiation of an investigation against officials of the previous administration for their probable negligence or omission in the work of confronting genetic profiles related to Francisca Mariner, reported missing in June 22, 2020.

Her remains were identified through DNA testing after remaining for more than four years in the Forensic Medical Service of Cancun, the FGE explained in a statement.

According to the FGE, Francisca Mariner’s body was found a month after her disappearance, on July 21, 2020, in a green area of Supermanzana 105, between Francisco I. Madero Avenue and Caranbachel Street. The cause of death was head trauma from a firearm projectile.

The first forensic genetic analysis, carried out by forensic specialists of the previous administration, with a blood sample from the victim’s mother was carried out on January 26, 2022, comparing it with the profile of the unidentified corpses with a negative result.

In March of that same year, they received a more complete genetic profile with which they performed a genetic confrontation of the relatives, yielding a negative result.

Likewise, on April 1, 2023, they obtained a new sample with which they created another profile, with which they once again compared it with the genetic profiles of the relatives, yielding a negative result. There was a direct profile comparison with the victim’s mother, in which three of the 24 indicators did not match, therefore, they ruled out a relationship due to maternity.

Finally, on November 22 of this year, a new comparison was carried out with the genetic profile obtained from a blood sample of the victim’s daughter, yielding a genetic match.

Following the corresponding procedures, the body was handed over to her relatives.

Francisca Mariner had been searched for more than four years, during which time her ex-partner, identified as Ángel Conrado “N”, was arrested as responsible for her disappearance.

In October of this year he was found guilty and sentenced to 50 years in prison for the crime of disappearance of persons committed by private individuals.
