Boyfriend of young Isla Mujeres girl missing since 2020 sentenced to 50 years

Isla Mujeres, Q.R. — The boyfriend of a young Isla Mujeres girl who has been missing since 2020 has been sentenced. Ángel Conrado “N” was sentenced to 50 years in prison Thursday for the murder of Francisca Mariner.

He was sentenced by a Cancun judge even though the body of Francisca Mariner, who was 12 at the time, has never been found. In a statement, the State Attorney General (FGE) called it “an unprecedented event in Quintana Roo.”

Francisca Mariner went missing in July of 2020 after she failed to return home from a day job she had at a private home. Several suspects were taken into custody during the years-long investigation, however, it was Ángel Conrado “N” who has been found guilty of her murder.

“In an unprecedented event in Quintana Roo, the State Attorney General’s Office obtained a conviction of 50 years for the crime of disappearance of persons committed by private individuals,” the FGE reported.

“The now sentenced person is Ángel Conrado “N” who was the sentimental partner of the victim who disappeared from the home where they lived with the family of the accused on June 22, 2020.

“A day later he (Ángel Conrado “N”) filed a complaint for the disappearance of his ex-partner for which on that date, the Amber Alert and the Alba Protocol were issued for her whereabouts.

“The investigations, in the field and office, established that Ángel Conrado “N” lied to evade his responsibility at the time of filing the complaint for her disappearance, since he was the one who participated in the events.

“After analyzing all the evidence provided by the Public Ministry, the Oral Trial Judge issued the 50 year prison sentence for Ángel Conrado “N”. In addition, he must pay the amount of a 695,040 pesos fine and was sentenced to repair damages in a comprehensive manner, which will be quantifiable at the stage of execution of the sentence,” the Fiscalía General del Estado (FGE) said.
