Isla Mujeres, Q.R. — The search for a 12 year old girl on the mainland of Isla Mujeres continues. The girl, Fernanda N, was reported missing July 21 by her parents. According to the missing person’s report, the child left her home in the Nazareno neighborhood to go to a neighbor’s house where she worked washing dishes.
She was reported missing when she failed to return home that evening.
On Sunday, a search and rescue team located a sack deep inside a cenote which lead to the distribution of firemen, police and Civil Protection. However, after retrieving it, an inspection of the sack revealed a dead animal.
Authorities who are part of the search team are remaining hopeful but have said on anonymity that due to the amount of time that has passed since her disappearance, she may not be found alive.
The FGE continues to post her Amber Alert missing profile online. The search team will continue scouring the mainland area of Isla Mujeres for the girl at 7:00 a.m.
