Isla Mujeres, Q.R. — A cruise ship passenger diagnosed with septic shock was transferred to a Cancun hospital. On Wednesday, Mexico’s Marina (Navy) reported transferring the woman to the mainland where an ambulance was waiting.

The Secretariat of the Navy (Secretaría de Marina), through the Mexican Navy and the Fifth Naval Region, reported that Tuesday night, naval personnel carried out a medical evacuation of an individual off the coast of Isla Mujeres.
According to the Secretaría de Marina, “the operation was initiated following an emergency call from a cruise ship requesting the medical evacuation of a woman who had gone into septic shock.
“Consequently, the Naval Search, Rescue, and Maritime Surveillance Station (ENSAR) in Isla Mujeres was ordered to immediately deploy a “Defender” vessel, staffed with naval medical personnel, with the objective of safeguarding human life at sea,” they said.
A Navy medical crew met the ship off the island of Isla Mujeres where the patient was lowered into their vessel for transfer. The woman was assessed prior to be transferred to the mainland where an ambulance was waiting to complete the transfer to a Cancun hospital.

Authorities did not provide an update on her health status.
