Agents from the State Attorney General (FGE) carried out the search operation at the Jireh Shaddai mainland addiction treatment center Monday night. Police were at the rehabilitation center on Gastón Alegre López Avenue in the continental area of Isla Mujeres to investigate the complaint.

According to information, the search stemmed from a complaint filed by relatives of a patient who said he had been physically attacked inside the facility. According to the complaint, family members went to the rehabilitation center on Friday morning for a routine visit but were turned away.

After leaving, the family learned that the person they intended to visit had been physically attacked while inside the center. The family filed an official complaint with the State Attorney General’s Office to clarify what happened and determine responsibility.

Agents from the Investigative Police began the initial steps and were granted a judicial search warrant that was executed Monday night.

The center has since been placed under the custody of the State Attorney General’s Office who will continue with the corresponding investigation.
