Tulum, Q.R. — A Tulum taxi driver accused of assaulting a rideshare driver has has his license suspended. On Wednesday, the Quintana Roo Mobility Institute (Imoveqroo) said the taxi driver had his license suspended for attacking another driver.

The Instituto de Movilidad del Estado de Quintana Roo (Imoveqroo) says Fredy Renán Gamboa Acosta, a member of the Tiburones del Caribe Taxi Drivers Union, has been suspended for his alleged participation in an attack against another taxi driver who provided service through a digital platform in Tulum.
According to Imoveqroo, authorities intend to apply the maximum legal penalty including the definitive revocation of the concession and the cancellation of his taxi driver’s license.
The decision came after José Ramírez, a 52-year-old taxi driver and also a member of the same union, reported being physically and verbally assaulted by other taxi drivers while providing a service through Uber.
The incident was captured on a publicly released video showing several men surrounding the vehicle and trying to open a door with the driver inside.
Ramírez pointed to Freddy Gamboa among those accused of the attack, saying he feared for his safety during the Monday afternoon event.
Imoveqroo has since reported their decision to suspend the license of Freddy Gamboa is supported by the taxi driver’s union.
