Playa del Carmen, Q.R. — Four men accused of extorting Playa del Carmen businesses are in custody. Authorities made the arrests after the business owners filed a complaint. On Tuesday, the State Attorney General, Raciel López Salazar, reported that all four were taken into custody for extorting several businesses.
López Salazar reported that Jesús “N”, Daniel Isaac “N”, Edgar Nemecio “N” and Erick “N” have been charged. He says Jesús “N” and Daniel Isaac “N” are being investigated for events that occurred at a commercial establishment located on Fifth Avenue with 32nd Street in the centro neighborhood.
Both men entered the businness to demand a payment of 40,000 pesos per week, threatening to kill the employees if they did not comply.
Edgar Nemecio “N” and Erick “N” have been ordered to stand trial after their arrests for allegedly demanding “protection money” from the owner of two laundromats, he said.

López Salazar said that the demand was for 35,000 pesos per month for both establishments. They were part of the arrests made during the last days of the year for extortion.
He said that during 2025, the Public Prosecutor’s Office, under his command, arrested 136 people related to extortion, all of whom who are part of various criminal groups that generate violence in the state.
Of those arrested, 124 were formally charged and are waiting sentencing. Likewise, the Prosecutor’s Office obtained 13 convictions from Oral Trial judges with sentences of up to 37 years in prison.
