Cozumel, Q.R. — The island of Cozumel continues to consolidate its position as one of Mexico’s most attractive tourist destinations. During July 2025, the island’s hotels recorded an average occupancy rate of 60 percent, representing a 4.3 percentage point increase over June and an increase of more than 9 percent compared to the same month last year.

Mayor José Luis Chacón Méndez celebrated the results saying, “this growth is no coincidence. It’s the result of coordinated work between authorities, the hotel industry, airlines and tourism developers.
“Cozumel is more vibrant than ever and we continue to advance to offer quality experiences that will maintain our position as a leading destination in the Mexican Caribbean.”
The Cozumel Island Hotel Association (AHIC) says these results confirm that hotel tourism remains strong, even during the low season.
José Elías Farah Ceh, Deputy Director of Tourism, reported 71 percent of visitors arriving by air are foreigners primarily from the United States (39.3%) and Canada (14.8%), according to data from the Quintana Roo Tourism Secretariat (SEDETUR).

Adding to this growth is the expansion of air connectivity. Volaris will increase its flight frequencies from Mexico City on August 3 and 31. Meanwhile, Viva Aerobús will add additional flights on September 18 and 19 from AIFA to accommodate the arrival of Ironman 70.3 Cozumel triathletes.
Aeroméxico will add two additional flights on September 19 and 22, according to Pablo Alfonso Aguilar Torres, the island representative of the Quintana Roo Tourism Promotion Council (CPTQ).
