Cozumel lifeguards rescue swimmer who had been warned about strong rip currents

Cozumel, Q.R. — Lifeguards from the Civil Protection and Fire Department of Cozumel rescued a swimmer swept out to sea. The rescue took place Monday afternoon off Playa San Martin on the eastern side of the island.

The report was generated at around 3:30 p.m. when lifeguards Rubén Estrada and César Poot were in the San Martín 1 watchtower. From there, they saw a man being dragged out to sea by the rip current, approximately 70 meters away.

Both lifeguards proceeded to carry out the rescue of the young man, who, according to lifeguards, had already been warned about the strong current. The unidentified swimmer was returned to shore from where the lifeguards returned to their watchtower.
