Cozumel, Q.R. — The island of Cozumel has activated free Wi-Fi on Rafael E. Melgar Avenue. The free wireless connection was made available Monday which extends from Airport Boulevard to Puerta Maya.

Mayor José Luis Chacón Méndez launched the free internet access on Rafael E. Melgar Avenue Monday with Gigmax personnel. He thanked them for installing the fiber optic system in the island’s tourist hub, which will provide free internet access to both tourists and locals.
“Today we take a firm step toward building a connected, modern, and inclusive island, a Cozumel where technology serves everyone. With this initiative, we seek to improve the quality of life for our families and, at the same time, offer a better experience to all those who visit us, thus strengthening our tourism, social, and technological development,” said the Mayor.
Martín Trozzo Francese, the Director of Gigmax, called Monday a historic day for the people of Cozumel thanks to the mayor who is a true example for society and for the destinations by providing free access to this service that has become indispensable in our lives today.
This internet system, installed by Gigmax on Rafael E. Melgar Avenue, uses fiber optic technology to improve data traffic, enabling around 12,000 people to connect simultaneously with a speed of 25 megabytes per device.

People traveling on Rafael E. Melgar Highway will be able to connect in two ways, by locating one of the access points with a QR code installed along the road or by logging in directly from the Wi-Fi button on their devices and selecting the Gigmax signal.
