Cozumel, Q.R. — Island firemen and Civil Protection spent part of Saturday pulling a man out of a well. The 43 year old accidently stepped into the 50×50 centimeters well (pozo), falling straight down approximately six meters.

The hole to the well was located in the floor inside his home in the Adolfo López Mateos neighborhood of Cozumel. Cozumel firemen rigged a pully system using two ladders and a rope to get him out since a vertical rescue was not possible due to the lack of space.
The operation was under the command of Rodrigo Sánchez. The rescue was closely supervised by the Director of Cozumel Civil Protection Alfredo Arellano Villaseñor and the Deputy Director Mariano Dzay, who highlighted the prompt response and commitment of the firefighting team in emergency situations.

When the man surfaced, he was treated for a hit he suffered to the left side of his head. He was transferred to hospital for a medical evaluation.
