Cancun, Q.R. — Copa Airlines celebrated 25 years of traveling to Cancun Wednesday. The airline says they consider Quintana Roo a global destination. Mauro Arredondo, the General Manager of Copa Airlines in Mexico, said Wednesday that occupancy rates have remained stable since the pandemic, reflecting travelers’ confidence in air connectivity with the Mexican Caribbean.

“Copa not only transports passengers from Panama, but also acts as a strategic bridge connecting Cancun with important cities in Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Ecuador, Peru, Colombia, and even other Caribbean countries,” Arredondo said.
Regarding the recently suspended connection to the Tulum International Airport, Arredondo explained that the decision was related to aircraft availability and operational factors related to aircraft production.
In November, Copa Airlines announced the temporary suspension of its flights into Tulum International. The Panamanian airline suspended a total of four of their international routes due to new plane delivery delays by Boeing.
“The reactivation of this route will depend on the regularization of these elements, something we hoping to resume in the future,” Arredondo explained.
With a strategically connected flight network and a strong presence in Quintana Roo, Copa Airlines continues to play a key role in expanding tourism in the Mexican Caribbean, strengthening the destination’s international presence.
Andrés Martínez, the Director of the Quintana Roo Tourism Promotion Council (CPTQ), highlighted the importance of Copa Airlines as a strategic partner for the destination, facilitating the arrival of tourists from emerging and established markets.

“The airline is a fundamental part of the growth of the Mexican Caribbean, and Quintana Roo’s tourism industry has been one of the most benefited by this connectivity,” said Martínez.
