Cozumel, Q.R. — The island of Cozumel continued street cleaning Tuesday after being drenched by rains from the current cold front. On Monday night, island residents dealt with 155 millimeters of rain according to the Government of Cozumel.

Numerous streets were left under water as well as residential parking lots. The Director of Cozumel Civil Protection, Alfredo Arellano Villaseñor, says the island’s rainfall reached 155 millimeters due to an intense storm caused by cold front number 24.
In response to the heavy rains, a Storm Operation was activated with teams deployed in various parts of the city to clean sewers, collect plant waste and provide assistance to citizens.

Public Services, Civil Protection and Public Security personnel visited various affected neighborhoods, removing garbage and providing support with tow trucks to those who requested it.

Prior to the rains, city staff carried out sewer cleaning. During the early morning, however, they were activated again to clean the debris that was blocking the water outlets.

By morning, several points in the city had already been cleared. On Tuesday, Civil Protection and Public Services departments carried out cleaning tours at various points in the city. The objective, he said, was to ensure that the grates and storm drains were not obstructed and to verify the proper filtration of water.
