Cold Front 11 to cause drop in Cancun, Riviera Maya weekend temperatures

Riviera Maya, Q.R. — Cold Front 11 will cause a drop in temperatures this weekend for Cancun and Riviera Maya. State Civil Protection meteorologist Gustavo Adán García says the mass of polar air is expected in coming days with the effects of the cold likely hitting the region over the weekend.

Servicio Meteorológico Nacional (SMN) says “Cold Front No. 11 will acquire stationary characteristics over the northeast of the country, causing southerly winds of 20 to 40 kms/h with gusts of 50 to 70 kms/h in Tamaulipas and Veracruz.

“On the other hand, the entry of humidity from the Pacific Ocean, Gulf of Mexico and Caribbean Sea will cause rain and showers in the south and southeast of the Mexican Republic, as well as in the Yucatan Peninsula,” the SMN reported.

State Civil Protection is reminding residents of the effects of the cold in the face of the second blast of winter.

“In view of the presence of low temperatures, the Quintana Roo State Coordination of Civil Protection issues recommendations and preventive measures to protect children and the elderly from sudden changes in temperature and drafts and to wear appropriate clothing,” the Coordinación Estatal de Protección Civil QRoo said.

In the meantime, the SMN reports the region will continue with daytime temperatures of between 30C and 35C. The National Meteorological Service reported on Tuesday, Felipe Carrillo Puerto was the hot spot in Quintana Roo with 33.4 C.
